Richard James Bespoke & The Tour de France
You may remember when we announced our partnership with Rhodes Wood of Harrogate, we also mentioned that something rather special was in the offing to welcome this year’s Tour de France to London.
Well today I’m incredibly pleased to reveal just what that something special is – a beautiful custom city bike that we’ve created for Savile Row tailor Richard James to be displayed in their Bespoke store, in London’s Mayfair, during this year’s race.
And here’s the bike – the stunning Sundown Town:
Inspired by Richard James
The bike’s style cues come from this ice blue Cool Wool 2 piece in Richard James’ SS14 Sundown collection:
We took its cool pastel tones, its sleek, simple silhouette and, as was done with the suit, crafted a bicycle from the finest, lightweight materials.
A canvas saddle and coloured spoke nipples echo the relaxed summer style of the sequinned espadrilles while a stem-mounted brass bell symbolises the sun setting over the azure sea, slowly sinking toward the horizon of the top tube.
And, as befits a bike honouring the World’s greatest bike race, a firm hat tip (or should that be ‘cap tip‘?) is given to Le Tour’s Maillot Jaune thanks to a bold stripe of yellow up the inside of the front forks and the back of the seat tube.
The Sundown Town will be displayed at Richard James Bespoke (19 Clifford Street, London W1S 3RH) for the duration of this year’s Tour de France. You can see it from Monday June 30th until Sunday 3rd August.
The Sundown Town Special Edition
The Sundown Town is a two speed automatic city bike, handmade by our master frame builder in Coventry, England.
Poised and balanced. Bold & beautiful. It’s a bike that’s designed to be ridden in style – in a jacket, if you so choose – on those long cool summer evenings. And with it’s lightweight frame, big wheels and narrow tyres, a racer’s turn of speed just a pedal stroke away, to help you to your destination before the last of the sun’s rays finally disappear below the horizon.
The Sundown is a Special Edition of our soon to be launched Town bike. Its frame is made from seamless air-hardening Reynolds 853 double-butted steel tubing. These tubes are just 0.4mm at their thinnest point producing an exceptionally lightweight and remarkably strong frameset.
The Sundown also features Nitto’s beautiful Pearl 1″ quill stem, with its hazy pearlescent finish and Brooks England’s first non-leather saddle, the C17 Cambium. While it also features an upgrade to the front hub for smoother ride and the special edition paint finish.

The Sundown Town will be on display at Richard James Bespoke (19 Clifford Street, London W1S 3RH) from Monday June 30th until Sunday 27th July.
